I visited San Miguel de allende, Mexico in June or July of 2022 just in time for Dia de Los Locos. It’s a religious community celebration, blending Catholic, Indigenous, pre Hispanic and European festive traditions.
It might not be as big or as wild as a Carnaval but it’s just as welcoming and beautiful to be apart of.
The umbrellas you see people holding in some of the pictures are not for the rain. They are to shield you from the candy being thrown into the crowd by the masked mob of children and adults who sing and dance down the streets….. i learned the hard way, once or twice.
Everything was Joyous, exciting and safe.
